IUIU Attended MSU Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity Camp at Mahasarakham University in Thailand From 17th - 27th February 2024

Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) attended the Mahasarakham University Inclusivity, Diversity and Equity Camp (MSU INDIE), which took place at Mahasarakham University's main campus and Phuket City of Thailand. 

IUIU was represented by Nakkazi Hawah Musa, a law student at Kampala Campus, the former Guild Deputy Speaker, and currently the Interim Lady Vice President, along with Mr. Saim Celik, Coordinator of Centre for Capacity Development. Students from different universities in 13 countries, namely Japan, Thailand, China, Cambodia, the United Kingdom, Laos, the Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Myanmar, and Uganda, participated in the camp.

The camp started with outbreak activities to prepare participants in an intercultural diversity space by teaching participants, the essentials of the Thai language, and assigning them projects based on different themes to work in groups. Participants were delivered lectures from professors from around the world both physically and online on the subject.

After the on-campus activities, participants moved to  Phuket City, where they were involved in different volunteering activities such as beach clean-ups and recycling projects.  Alongside these activities, Mr. Saim Celik visited  H.E Assoc Prof Dr Prayook Srivilai the president (Rector) of the Mahasarakham University, and Assistant Prof Dr. Anyarat Nattheerapong, Assistant to the President for Public Relations and Global Image. He offered appreciation plaque and souvenirs for their positive consideration of IUIU`s participation.

The President warmly welcomed the idea of having collaborations in possible areas. Mr Saim has shared his observation that IUIU through its students displayed an amazing performance in the activities of the event and further stated that it is pretty important to be involved in such international events to prove IUIU`s excellence in teaching.
