Programme Overview

The Social Work program is aimed to provide students with the theoretical concepts, knowledge, and abilities necessary to understand social problems and how individual, environmental, and structural processes contribute to existing social problems. The curriculum incorporates knowledge from different disciplines such as sociology, political science, law, management, and information technology, among others, in order to fully comprehend humans and the problems they encounter.

The social work department is dedicated to providing well-articulated courses that will challenge graduates to think critically, evaluate problems, negotiate, advocate, and resolve management disputes, facilitate public presentations, and deliver oral, written, and reports. Graduates with a degree in Social Work can find work in government agencies, the private sector, and charitable organizations, specifically in child and adult protective services, schools, mental health settings, nursing homes, hospitals, and other interesting agencies that serve people in need.

The BSWSA program's primary purpose is to prepare students for entry-level generalist social work practice. Generalist social work practice is defined by the Department of Social Work at Islamic University in Uganda as the professionally responsible application of knowledge, research findings, and skills with a commitment to working with clients and implementing interventions at multiple levels, such as individuals, families, groups, organizations, communities, and societies.
