  • 21st July, 2025 1:18am

On 15th July 2025, Ms. Nagadya Hamidah represented the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) at the Artificial Intelligence Regulators Policy Roundtable, held as part of the prestigious Africa Law Tech Festival 2025.

The roundtable brought together a diverse group of African regulators, legal practitioners, policymakers, and technologists to engage in collaborative discussions on the future of Artificial Intelligence (AI) governance on the continent. The aim was to explore context-sensitive and forward-thinking regulatory approaches that can guide responsible AI adoption across Africa.

Discussions at the event focused on several critical areas:

  • Identifying regulatory gaps within current legal and institutional frameworks;

  • Assessing emerging risks associated with AI technologies;

  • Developing harmonized, risk-based governance models tailored to Africa’s legal, cultural, and socio-economic diversity.

The roundtable also emphasized the need to strengthen institutional capacity to ensure legal and regulatory systems can effectively keep pace with technological advancements. Central to the conversations were calls for ethical oversight, transparency, accountability, and alignment with continental initiatives such as the African Union’s digital transformation strategy.

Ms. Hamidah expressed her gratitude to the Islamic University in Uganda for the opportunity to participate in this significant policy dialogue. She also extended appreciation to the organizers and fellow participants for fostering an open and insightful exchange of ideas aimed at shaping a responsible and inclusive AI future for Africa.

This participation underscores IUIU’s commitment to contributing to cutting-edge discussions on emerging technologies and promoting policy development that safeguards public interest while enabling innovation.
