The Islamic University in Uganda faculty of law held a community outreach within the IUIU community and in the Pallisa district from 25 to 27 October 2023.

The delegation of eighty Bachelor of Law students led by the Ag Dean Faculty of Law Ms. Nagadya Hamidah and the Head of Department Ass. Prof Tindifa was flagged off by the Deputy Resident District Commissioner Pallisa district Nakussi Assa  on their visit which covered the areas of Pallisa town council, Pallisa secondary school, Apopong community, Gogonyo community, Gogonyo secondary school, and Akisim community

The outreach program was aimed at educating the members of the Pallisa district about the various modes of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms and also sensitizing them about how to draft a will, administer, and manage the estate of the deceased.

The legal awareness week was also focused on alternative dispute resolution mechanisms and how beneficial they are in resolving disputes.

The law students with the guidance of the law lecturers sensitized the elderly people about drafting a will, distribution and management of property of the deceased, and procedures for obtaining the letters of administration.

Lemi Frank a student of law and president of the Law Students Society at IUIU said he learnt that many people in the community suffer silently due to ignorance about the law.

Kakaire Umar also a student of law said the exercise helped them understand that law is not confined to the classroom but has a tangible impact on society.

The Dean Faculty of Law Ms. Nagadya Hamidah cited that the faculty shall continue to have community outreaches and engagements as one of the great ways of sensitizing the members of the community about various legal aspects that help in promoting justice, peace, and security in the country.

''It also improves the quality of legal education since students learn the practical realities of what they study. ''

''The activity also instilled in law students the humanitarian heart of giving back to the community as it showed them the legal realities and challenges that people are facing,'' she added.
