Attending to the 49th Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM)

The Rector of IUIU Assoc. Prof. Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda, accompanied by the Liaison Officer Mr Hamid Byamugenzi are in Nouakchott, Mauritania attending the CFM meeting that brings together Foreign Ministers of OIC member countries.

The 2-day meeting was opened yesterday Thursday, March 16, 2023, by the President of Mauritania and the Foreign Minister of Mauritania assumed the Chair for the session.

Several issues were discussed including; the fight against terrorism, Islamophobia, the Palestinian Question, Jammu and Kashmir crisis, and problems in Yemen, Syria, Turkey, the Myanmar Muslims and Somalia among others. Special resolutions have been taken with a call to the UN and Member states to take concrete actions; new ASGs have also been elected.

The Rector on the sidelines met IUIU friends in OIC including the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Dr Saleh Alsohaibani, the Ass. Secretary General Science and Technology Ambassador Askar Mussinov as well as former Rector, Dr Ahmad Kawesa Sengendo, the Ass. Secretary-General for Economic Affairs.

Also in attendance are the Rectors of our sister OIC Universities, the Islamic University of Technology, Bangladesh and the Islamic University of Niger.
