IUIU Welcomes New Students at 2025/2026 Admissions Ceremony

The IUIU Rector, Assoc. Prof. Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda, this Sunday, 26th October 2025, attended the 37th Convocation of Islamic University of Technology (IUT), in Dhaka, Bangladesh, as an invitee of the IUT Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mohammad Rafiqul Islam.

Over 520 students from 16 countries graduated in different fields of Engineering and Computer Technology.
The occasion was attended by many dignitaries from OIC, including the OIC Assistant Secretary General, Science and Technology, HE Amb. Aftab Ahmad Khokher and the Chief Guest was the Advisor Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, Prof. Dr. Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar.

Prof. Gyagenda, accompanied by the former VC of IUT, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Fazli Ilahi, later visited the University of Frontier Technology, where he was received by the VC Prof. Mohammad Abu Yousuf. This government University specializes in Computer Science and emerging technologies of the 21st century, such as the Internet of Things and cybersecurity. There were discussions of potential collaboration between the Universities, especially once IUIU 's upcoming Faculty of Engineering and Technology begins next year.

Prof. Gyagenda also met the Ugandan students at IUT, who include some IUIU staff, and called upon them to concentrate on their studies and ensure they get excellent grades. Among those who graduated were 3 Ugandans.
In his discussion with the IUT VC and IUT Registrar, Dr. Umar Mwebesa, an IUIU pioneer alumnus and former IUIU Deputy Registrar, emphasis was put on IUT's role in guiding IUIU as we work to establish the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET). The VC promised to provide partial scholarships to IUIU staff to pursue postgraduate courses at IUT. IUT faculty will also help in reviewing the FET curricula.

Prof. Gyagenda also visited the office of the Bangladesh office of the International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT), where he was welcomed by the Country Director, Dr. Abdul Aziz. Dr. Aziz explained the work of the office and the establishment of the Bangladesh Institute of Islamic Thought (BIIT), which extends IIIT's work in the region. Prof. Gyagenda thanked him and his staff for the work they are doing, focusing on the integration of knowledge and reconstruction of thought. He informed Dr. Aziz of IIIT's long-term support for IUIU in staff development, capacity building, textbook writing, and joint workshops and conferences.
