The Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) actively participated in the Annual Migration Conference (AMC), held on April 20, 2025, in Nairobi, Kenya, under the theme “Securing Sustainable Solutions for Migration in Somalia.”
Mr. Saim Çelik, a staff member from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, presented his paper titled “Empowering Communities: Somali Diaspora in Uganda.” His paper highlighted the significant role of Somali communities in Uganda and the importance of empowering diaspora groups in shaping sustainable migration policies.

The conference was a collaborative effort by the Office of the Special Presidential Envoy for Migration, Returns, and Children’s Rights (OSPE), the East African Institute for Peace and Governance (EAIPG), and the University of Nairobi. It brought together scholars, international development partners, policymakers, and civil society actors to discuss innovative approaches to migration challenges in the region.
