IUIU Hosts Gulu University Delegation for Benchmarking Visit
The Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) hosted a delegation from Gulu University at its Main Campus in Mbale for a benchmarking exercise to strengthen institutional collaboration and promote the exchange of best practices in higher education on Monday, 13th July 2026.
The delegation was received by the Academic Registrar, Dr. Adam Ali, and other members of staff on behalf of the university management. In his welcome remarks, Dr. Ali highlighted IUIU’s commitment to fostering partnerships with fellow institutions of higher learning to enhance academic excellence, innovation, and institutional development.
The benchmarking visit primarily focused on internationalisation, with both institutions sharing experiences and strategies for expanding global partnerships, enhancing student and staff mobility, promoting collaborative research, and strengthening international visibility. The discussions also explored opportunities for deeper collaboration through the establishment of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between IUIU and Gulu University to facilitate joint academic programmes, research initiatives, staff exchanges, and other areas of mutual interest.
As part of the visit, the delegation toured several key facilities across the Main Campus. The visitors toured 93.1 IUIU FM, where they gained insights into the university’s practical media training and community engagement initiatives. They also visited the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, where they were briefed on the faculty’s programmes, modern laboratories, and ongoing efforts to equip students with industry-relevant skills.
The tour further showcased a number of the university’s academic and support facilities, providing the delegation with a broader understanding of IUIU’s learning environment, infrastructure, and commitment to quality education.
The visit concluded with a renewed commitment by both institutions to continue engaging in knowledge sharing and exploring strategic areas of collaboration that will contribute to the advancement of higher education in Uganda and beyond.
