IUIU Hosts Colourful Eid Celebrations, Calls for Discipline and Education

  • 23rd March, 2026 7:00pm

The Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) hosted vibrant Eid celebrations at its main campus in Mbale, bringing together hundreds of students, staff, and members of the surrounding Muslim community to mark the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

Delivering a message on behalf of the University Rector, Assoc. Prof Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda, the Vice Rector Incharge of Finance and Administration Prof Abdul Kaziba Mpaata congratulated the Muslim Ummah upon completing Ramadan, commending believers for their dedication to fasting, prayer, and acts of charity throughout the holy month. The Rector expressed gratitude to Imams for leading Taraweeh prayers and encouraged continued reflection on the teachings of the Qur’an as a guide for both personal and societal development.

The Rector emphasised the importance of maintaining discipline beyond Ramadan, urging Muslims to uphold the values of unity, generosity, and self-control demonstrated during the fasting period. Students were particularly encouraged to pursue holistic growth by nurturing both their intellectual capacity and spiritual wellbeing.

The Rector highlighted opportunities at IUIU, especially in science-related fields, noting the growing demand for programs such as medicine and the anticipated launch of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology.

He further urged parents and students in Mbale and beyond to take advantage of the university’s academic offerings, stressing that education remains key to personal and national development.

The Rector also called for prayers for Muslims facing hardship in different parts of the world, encouraging unity and compassion within the global Muslim community.
