IUIU Hosting FAWE Zimbabwe Delegation for Benchmarking Visit
06th May, 2026 1:51pm
The Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) is hosting a delegation from the Forum for African Women Educationists Zimbabwe (FAWEZI) as part of a regional benchmarking visit aimed at strengthening inclusive access to higher education.
The visit, scheduled for 6th May 2026, is coordinated through the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) and will bring together a 17-member team comprising representatives from FAWE Zimbabwe, the Zimbabwe Council for Higher Education, universities, and the MasterCard Foundation. The delegation will be led by Professor Faraul Tagwira, Permanent Secretary in Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development.
IUIU has been selected as one of the leading institutions in Uganda offering the Higher Education Access Certificate (HEAC) programme, which is designed to widen access to university education for underrepresented groups. The choice reflects the university’s strong reputation in implementing inclusive and gender-responsive academic pathways.
The purpose of the visit is to enable the Zimbabwean delegation to gain practical insights into the design and implementation of access programmes, as Zimbabwe develops its own Science Foundation Programme targeting increased participation in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
During their engagement at IUIU, the delegation interacted with faculty, students, and Alumni to better understand the impact of the HEAC programme. They will also review institutional frameworks, quality assurance mechanisms, and best practices that support equitable access to higher education.
