Ms. Nagadya Hamidah Presents Paper on Gender Equity at the International Interdisciplinary Consortium Africa Conference

  • 12th November, 2025 4:47pm

Ms. Nagadya Hamidah, a Lecturer at the Faculty of Law, Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU), presented her research paper at the International Interdisciplinary Consortium Africa Conference 2025, held on 6th November 2025 at Kyambogo University.

The conference brought together partner institutions, including Mount Kenya University, University of Eldoret, University of Makeni, Vincent Pol University, and Kyambogo University, and was attended by distinguished scholars and dignitaries from across Africa.

Ms. Hamidah’s paper, titled “Analyzing Barriers to Gender Equity in Ugandan Higher Education,” examined the persistent challenges that hinder the effective implementation and enforcement of gender equity laws within Uganda’s higher education system. She observed that although Uganda’s legal framework on gender equity is robust, its impact remains limited due to weak enforcement and institutional follow-through.

In her presentation, Ms. Hamidah highlighted the importance of strengthening institutional frameworks and regulatory oversight, promoting mentorship programmes for women in leadership, expanding inclusive leadership opportunities, and reinforcing accountability and monitoring mechanisms. She also emphasized the need to integrate gender-responsive pedagogy into university curricula to foster an equitable and inclusive academic environment.
