The Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) had the pleasure of welcoming a delegation from Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University (TOGU), Türkiye, as part of the ongoing Erasmus+ staff mobility program. Following a courtesy visit to the Rector at the Kampala Campus, the delegation proceeded to the IUIU Main Campus in Mbale for a two-day engagement from April 16th to 17th, 2025.

The visiting team, led by Assoc. Prof. Özkan İnik, was warmly received by colleagues at the Main Campus, led by the Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Kantono Rehema. The purpose of the visit was to explore and strengthen avenues for academic collaboration, staff exchange, and joint research between the two institutions.
A key part of the visit involved a meeting with the Department of Computer Science, where discussions focused on collaboration in Data Engineering, Software Engineering, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) Engineering. The delegation expressed a strong desire to work closely with the department on both research and teaching fronts.

Among the meeting's outcomes were proposals for activating the existing Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), launching sabbatical exchange programs, organizing online student training, and supporting Cisco training initiatives. The two institutions also agreed to jointly pursue an Erasmus grant focused on acquiring AI equipment and committed to participating in the upcoming AI Symposium in June 2025. Mr. Chekwot was nominated to coordinate IUIU's participation.

Additionally, the Department of Social Work and Social Administration participated in discussions, with engagement from Dr. Cezmi Ervüz from the corresponding department at TOGU. The dialogue explored possibilities for future collaboration in social development, education, and community engagement.
Other highlights included a pledge to share academic materials, provide cybersecurity training, and initiate joint academic writing and training activities. Mr. Magombe Yasin was designated to follow up on grants and funding opportunities.
The TOGU team also paid a visit to IUIU Primary School, where they interacted with staff and were briefed on the school’s operations and needs. The delegation discussed possibilities of maintaining communication and building a partnership with a school in Türkiye, where one of the visiting professors' children is enrolled.
While at the Main Campus, the delegates toured the Faculty of Engineering project and exchanged ideas with the University Engineer. Their tour concluded with positive remarks and encouragement to maintain close collaboration.

IUIU looks forward to building on this visit by activating agreed partnerships, pursuing collaborative opportunities, and deepening ties with Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University (TOGU) in the areas of education, research, and institutional development.
