IUIU HOSTS PUBLIC LECTURE ON GLORIFICATION OF THE SACRED CITY OF MAKKAH

Preperations to  host a two days Public lecture on the  Issues of the Glorification of the Sacred city of Makkah at Islamic University in Uganda are on going.

The Public lecture aims to publicize the Sacred City Glorification Project so as to build a common Muslim culture based on the code of conduct in the Sacred City in a bid to entrench the values of its glorification; encourage scientific research bodies, universities and centers of studies to integrate the issues of glorification in their academic research projects; promote their contribution in enriching the Glorification Observatory with the materials and statistics on the various issues of glorification; and publicize local expertise relevant to the issues of glorification through organizing Hajj journeys, changing stereotypes, dispelling doubts, and dislodging misconceptions about the Sacred City and Hajj ritual through the optimal use of information techniques and modern communication multimedia.

It will present the reference guidance document on the Sacred City Glorification Project and its implementation programmes, introduce several academic researchers works on Islamic jurisprudence and literary production on the issues of glorification in the Islamic heritage; and preview the local experiences in addressing the issues of the glorification of the Scared City.

The Public lecture that will run from 3rd - 4th September at the University’s main campus Mbale is part of the  research project being spearheaded by the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) and the Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World (FUIW) in collaboration with the Sacred City Glorification Project in Makkah Al-Mukarramah.

Speaking to the IUIU Vice-rector Academic Affairs Prof. Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda, he revealed that representatives from ISESCO and the FUIW, Delegates from Saudi Arabia, the Saudi Embassy in Uganda official, officials from Uganda Muslim Supreme council, Researchers, Academicians and religious leaders are expected.

On the first day, we shall have presentations from world’s top Muslim scholars and researchers on ‘Issues of the Glorification of the Sacred city of Makkah' which is the major area of focus and then question and answer session” he stated.

The vice-rector also said that on the sidelines of the Public lecture, an academic meeting will be held with IUIU postgraduate students and teaching staff to explore ways to integrate glorification issues in relevant upcoming research projects.

Prof. Gyagenda further revealed that on the  second day (4th. September), a cultural exhibition will be open to the public from 9:00 to 5:00 pm and it will include pictures and scientific and media explanations on the Sacred City Glorification Project, the monuments of Makkah Al-Mukarammah, the Holy Mosque and Hajj routes.
