The Rector, IUIU, Assoc. Prof. Ismail Simbwa Gyagenda, accompanied by the VR Academic Affairs, Dr. Jamil Serwanga, the ERP Manager, Mr. Hamza Sekalema and the Coordinator IUIU-COMSTECH, Mr. Dragule Swaib visited Pakistan with VCs and DVs of several African Islamic Universities at the invitation of COMSTECH Coordinator General, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary.
 
 
The visit from 7th to 14th is a COMSTECH initiative that was born out of the Halal Testing and Certification Workshop, where Prof. Gyagenda, in IUIU's strategic pursuit of international linkages, arranged a dinner that brought together the visiting VCs from Nigeria and Prof. Dr. Choudhary and Ambassador Askar Mussinov, the OIC Assistant Secretary General, Science and Technology.
 
At the meeting it was resolved to create the Alliance of Islamic Universities of Africa (AIUA) to promote linkages with their sister Universities in Pakistan and elsewhere in the OIC fraternity.
 
12 Universities from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and Nigeria are represented in Islamabad: IUIU, Kampala University and Islamic Call University College from Uganda. UMMA University from Kenya, Muslim University of Morogoro from Tamzania, and al Istiqama University, Al Ansar University, Nasarawa State University, Borno State University, and Al Qalam University of Katsina from Nigeria.
 
 
The Distinguished delegates frim Africa had sessions with VCs and Rectors of  major Pakistani Universities to discuss collaborations  and on Friday held a Seminar on "Higher Education in the post Covid Era".
 
Participating Pakistani Universities have all promised to assist the AIUA Universities in different mutually beneficial areas including staff scholarship, staff and student exchange, capacity building and curriculum development. They all promised to cater for the local expenses of all exchange scholars and students.
 
An MoU was signed on Friday between COMSTECH and AIUA by the Coordinator General of COMSTECH Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary and Prof. Dr. Ismail Gyagenda, Rector IUIU, who was leader of the AIUA delegation.
 
 
The group is leaving Islamabad for University of Sarghoda and Lahore where they will sign MoUs and agree on concrete activities to operationalize the collaboration.
