IUIU plans more technology courses

Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) is set to start more technology courses to enable students be innovative, the university rector, Dr Ahmad K. Sengendo, has said.
Dr Ssengendo made the remarks during the university’s 23rd graduation ceremony at the female campus, Kabojja in Kampala, on Saturday.

At least 2,658 students graduated with masters, bachelors, diplomas and certificates in different fields.
“We are fully aware that the challenges of living and working in the 21st Century knowledge-driven society require that we prepare our students to have capacity to be creative and innovative. Science and technology are the key drivers of the modern society,” Dr Ssengendo said.
He hailed the government for the great support extended to IUIU since its inception in 1988.

Dr Ssengendo announced that Dr Abdulaziz Al-Sebail from Saudi Arabia is the new chairperson of the university council, replacing Dr Abdallah Omar Naseef, who is retiring. The IUIU council also renewed Dr Ssengendo’s contract for another five years. He has been serving as rector for the last 11 years.
A total of 113 first class degrees and diplomas were awarded.
Among the graduates, were 1,449 males and 1,209 female.

President Museveni, in a speech read for him by 3rd deputy Prime Minister and minister for East African Affairs Kirunda Kivenjinja urged graduates to desist from the cancer of corruption eating the Ugandan society. He said the country counts on such highly qualified and disciplined graduates to lead the social transformation.

Mr Museveni told the graduates to live a healthy and constructive life free of HIV, stressing that Uganda needs a healthy and productive population to go forward.

The former speaker of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Alhaj Aminu Waziri Tambuwak, thanked government for being hospitable to Nigerian students, saying it’s a sign of unity. He challenged the graduates to use the skills they acquired to transform their communities.
